Climate change is happening. That is a fact which visitors and locals are becoming more aware of in our region with every passing day. This is not only because the first consequences of the change are already visible in the surrounding area. The need to co-exist with nature – both with its beauty and with its dangers – has shaped the life of the people living in our valleys for generations. Perhaps that is why we are particularly sensitive to the huge challenges facing us as a result of climate change. In the mountains we are constantly reminded how essential it is for our survival that nature should remain in sound order. So we are very pleased that the University of Bern is breaking new ground in the Jungfrau region, in order to convey information about climate change in a place where you can really see it. The aim of the climate guide is to generate understanding about what may well be dramatic developments in our environment. In order to head off these threats, we must all look for solutions together. Our communes are determined to make their contribution here. Emanuel Schläppi council chairman of the commune of Grindelwald Peter Wälchlicouncil chairman of the commune of Lauterbrunnen
